Event 8 - Seagulls Festive Funrun 2018

9th December 2018 - This event was a family affair in more ways than one. Of course Brighton and Hove Albion has to be the biggest family in Brighton and all of our family went, Gareth, Seb, Sienna, Amelie and me. And when we arrived, our Runpals family was also there in the masses! This was a short run of 2km so the little ones can take part and for me the biggest draw was getting the blue Santa hat! It was a very chilly day and we all congregated in the stadium to meet gully and say our hellos to fellow runners! This was my second attempt at doing an event with all three of my youngest children - fingers crossed! We all set off in good spirits and wait for it..........about 200m into the run and just out of eyesight of Daddy, Amelie decided she didn't want to run. Who could have guessed lol?! After coaxing, cajoling, bribing and begging to no avail, I picked Amelie up and just ran with her in my arms but after a while that got pretty exhausting as despite my protestations, Amelie just keeps on growing and is now pretty big at the age of 4 but in age 5-6 clothes. Luckily the tailwalker for the event was a lovely mum that I met at Peacehaven Swimming School and she recognised me and felt my pain and offered to for Amelie to walk with her so that I could run with Sienna who then wouldn't have to run alone. The rest of the funrun went without a hitch and Sienna absolutely loved it. We were almost last in but that didn't matter - because there was a medal! And we even made it in to the local paper!

I started this challenge with some pretty big events. I didn't plan it this way, the aim was to start small and increase the difficulty and intensity of the challenges as time went by and hopefully my fitness would follow. But somehow fate had other ideas and I managed to start with two triathlons and an absolutely epic Wolf Run. Where to go from here? RISE 8km Undercliff of course. A straight forward, flat and fairly short run, easy peasy. Thankfully an event that couldn't get more local for me if I tried and its my usual run route so I really didn't feel any pressure with this one at all.  Just before Wolf Run, I started a diet because I've realised that lugging around unnecessary weight really does make these challenges a damn sight harder. Event 12 - Brighton Half Marathon 2019

This event was such a big deal to me. Its the furthest I have ever run in my life and around six weeks ago while training (on a treadmill - I was in Bulgaria and there was loads of snow which prevented running outside) I ran 20km and didn't go any further as I didn't want to spoil the elation I knew I'd feel completing this very first half marathon. So this was my chance, my goal, my Everest (for now!). And the pressure....oh the pressure! I knew deep down I could do the distance but I went and injured my foot somehow last week on the Slindon Slog so the whole week was complete rest to make sure I would heal and be ready for the distance. For the first three days I couldn't walk and then the rest of the week I was hobbling and the entire time I was completely stressing out worrying about starting the race and having to retire due to injury. Event 1 - Southwater Relay Sunday 2nd Sept 2018

 Event 1 of 40 - Well the day finally arrived for my first event of this challenge, after all the hard work of planning, organising, preparing, exercising and worry the fun bit was about to happen – yay! Southwater Relay is a slightly bonkers and fun and relatively short distance team triathlon set in the stunning backdrop of Southwater Country Park. Each team consists of three people or legs and each person completes the whole course and then tags the next person who then completes the course again and so on. I was the middle leg, leg number 2. The course is a 400m lake swim, an 18km bike around the roads nearby to the park and a 3.8km run. My team was chosen by Britri which is the triathlon club that my family belong to (mainly for my son as he competes in kids tris) but they have been fantastic supporting me and giving me advice.
